The future with confidence

Academics

Curriculum

Following the CAPS curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Education, Raslouw Academy caters for learners from Grades 4 to 12, while Raslouw Junior Academy supports and develops learners between Grade R and Grade 3. In addition, learner-teacher ratios are strictly limited in a bid to ensure that every learner receives individualised remedial education.

Achievements

Raslouw Academy is focused mainly on remedial education; however, our learners regularly achieve a 100% pass rate in their National Senior Certificate Examinations.

In 2020, our Grade 12 learners achieved a 100% pass rate, with the class of 2020 also being awarded a 100% Bachelor’s Pass.

In 2019, our learners achieved a 100% pass rate, with 80% of our learners obtaining Bachelor Passes.

In 2018, our learners achieved a 100% pass rate, obtaining 8 distinctions and 6 Bachelor Passes in the process.

In 2018, Raslouw Academy not only achieved a 100% pass rate, but also achieved the highest overall average in Afrikaans First Additional Language and Tourism in the District.

In 2017, Raslouw Academy was again distinguished for ranking second highest in the district for Afrikaans First Additional Language for the matric exams – this against mainstream schools!

Workbooks

To ensure effective teaching and optimal learning, specialised workbooks and learning material has been developed for every learner to integrate auditory, visual and motor methodologies. These workbooks are revised and updated regularly to ensure that optimal and adapted learning takes place continuously.

Concession examinations

Raslouw Academy provides its learners with the opportunity to write the National Senior Certificate Examinations in Grade 12, with the assistance of Accommodation Examinations. Accommodations Examinations are applied for through the Department of Education, who may award concessions in the areas of the provision of a scribe, reader, prompter, additional time, a separate venue and spelling, to name a few. The Accommodations Examinations allow every learner to reach his or her full potential in Grade 12, and to enter the world with a recognised qualification and the confidence to excel concessions in the areas of the provision of a scibe, reader, prompter, additional time, a separate venue and spelling, to name a few. The Accommodations Examinations allow every learner to reach his or her full potential in Grade 12, and to enter the world with a recognised qualification and the confidence to excel.

Therapist network

Given the learners’ unique sets of circumstances and challenges, they are often unable to cope in a mainstream schooling system. Raslouw Academy and Raslouw Junior Academy relies on a multidisciplinary network of therapists, specialist physicians and psychologists and psychiatrists, each trained to approach learners’ special needs holistically, thereby ensuring academic progress and instilling a hunger for life-long learning.

A number of therapists are available on-site, including Speech and Occupational therapists who attend to learners in dedicated therapy rooms on the premises at Raslouw Junior Academy.

Aptitude Testing

All learners undergo aptitude testing in their Grade 9 year during the second term. Raslouw Academy utilises this feedback, along with the valuable input from parents, to formulate a specially designed subject package for Grade 10. All testing is conducted and interpreted by trained therapists and psychologists, paving the way for learners to work towards their strengths in determining future learning opportunities.
